BUTLER FUELS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

We are always delighted to talk to you regarding any questions you may have so call us on 08457 240241 to talk to one of our friendly team. However, we have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions below:

1. I'm new to Oil-fired heating. Is it a cost efficient fuel?
Over 1.5 million households in the UK and Ireland use oil. Oil customers find oil-fired central heating systems just as easy to use as mains gas. It is a clean fuel as most modern clean burning appliances have low CO2 emissions and high efficiency ratings. It is also more versatile than solid fuel and cheaper to run than electricity or LPG once installed (source: OFTEC). However, new user should be aware that unlike Mains your fuel tank needs to ne monitored to avoid running out. BUTLER FUELS provides a free Top Up service to help make sure you never run out.

2. What is the difference between Kerosene and Gas Oil?
Kerosene, also known as 28-second oil (or Home Heating Oil), is produced after the distillation process of crude oil. Most domestic heating systems use Kerosene because it provides a cleaner and more efficient burn for the home.

Gas Oil, also known as 35-second oil (red diesel), is more commonly used in agriculture and industry. Gas Oil is less combustible than Kerosene.

3. What is the VAT on Home Heating Oil?

Domestic customers buying Home Heating Oil are charged VAT at only 5% for orders of under 2,300 litres.

4. Do you service boilers?
We don’t have our own service engineers but we can supply you with the details of several local OFTEC registered engineers who will be able to service your boiler for you.

5. Do you sell heating oil tanks?
We do not sell oil storage tanks but we can provide you with any general advice and the details of several local OFTEC registered companies who will be able to supply and install a new tank for you.

6. What is your minimum heating oil delivery?
The minimum delivery we can make by law is 500 litres. However, there are overwhelming benefits of increasing the volume of your fuel including a cheaper price overall so you save money and less deliveries to see into your property. Less tanker road miles is also greener and environmentally friendly.

7. Do I need to be home when you make a delivery?
No you don’t, providing your tank is outside and easily accessible. We normally deliver fuel between 7.30am and 5.30pm. We will automatically leave a delivery ticket with the amount of fuel we have supplied. If you need to unlock a gate for us to gain access, let us know and we will call, text or email you the day before we deliver so you can unlock accordingly. To register for this call your sales team on 08457 240241

8. How can I pay for my heating oil | Fuel oils?
We want to make paying for your fuel as easy as receiving it. So you can choose to pay by cheque, or over the phone by credit or debit card. We also offer a direct debit Simple Pay scheme so you can spread the cost of your warmth over the year so that your bills are far more manageable.

9. Why do you not accept cash payment on delivery?
In accepting cash payments, we are exposing our drivers to security risks and we feel that we have a responsibility to move to a fully secure payment system for all our customers. Paying for fuel is still easy as we accept cheques, credit and debit cards, as well as direct debit whether it be 12 equal monthly installments or our pay-as-you-go option.

10. Where is my nearest sales team based?
To contact your nearest sales team, phone us on 08457 240241. This is the same cost as a local call rate number, but it automatically routes you to your nearest sales team. If the phones are busy, you will be routed to the next available sales team who will be able to deal with your order. This number ensures your call is never missed.
